Completed Kayak – Naming her the Woodbie

Posted on September 1, 2022September 14, 2022 By Mike No Comments on Completed Kayak – Naming her the Woodbie
Kayak Building, Taalak

Yes, Taalak has been the name I’ve been calling this kayak the whole time, but now that she’s done, I feel like calling her the Woodbie.

Really happy with how it turned out. Looks great.

Went with the Maroske fittings again to have nice clean deck fittings. The EVA foam mat looks great and was easier to cut than I thought it would be.

Love the look of the Okoume on the bow deck. I think Pygmy kayaks are the ones that made me want a peaked deck with two pieces of plywood used that have some contrast to them.

Love the grain of this piece of Okoume. The deck hatch is huge by the way.
Stern storage area. The red rope is connected to the Hobie Guardian and allows me to raise/lower my transducer. I need a handle and some holds for it.
Aluminum gear tracks so I can adjust the seat foward/aft depending on if I’m alone or my daughter is with me. Love the EVA foam matt as well. Very comfortable and of course not slipper while standing and fishing
Front view of the Woodbie, very fast through the water.
The stern, some left over Keel guard from taped on. I did purchase some thermoplastic sheets. I think I will switch to those as they look much more durable. However I got them in black, so there’s a visual distraction there.
Looks really nice! I’m a little biased.
