Integrated recessed kayak handles

Kayak Building, Sabalo 12 MK1

I’ve been thinking of the handles for a bit. I didn’t want to screw in some rubber handles or a strap. I wanted a handle that was somewhat recessed and had nice curves to go with the kayak.

So I came up with this. The idea is that it will look like part of the kayak and not just an after thought. I will be cutting off the bottom portion, filleting it to the inside and than epoxying it in.

Took longer than I thought but also came out really well. I used .y router to start the shape, chiseled away the recess and than a lot of 80 grit sand paper for final shape. It’s really hard to get in under the handle. Making it 2 poeces would be so much easier but having a 1 piece seems cool probably one of those things oy the builder will appreciate.
